Course Summary:
In this course, you'll master the skills of writing correct and effective SQL (Structured Query Language) statements that manipulate and retrieve data from your database. Once you know SQL, you can use it to interact with most major relational databases, such as IBM DB2, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL.

Target Audience:
Anyone who will be using SQL to manipulate data stored in a Relational Database Management System.

Recommended Prerequisites:
An understanding of Computer System fundamentals. No prior exposure to SQL is necessary.

Course Objectives:
After completing this course, the delegate should be able to:

  • Discuss basic relational database concepts:
        a. tables, columns, rows and keys
        b. inserting, modifying and deleting table data
        c. referential integrity
        d. data normalization
  • Exhibit SQL knowledge and literacy
  • Develop and use SQL at various levels
  • Discuss SQL performance related practices to their code
  • Apply knowledge with relevant practical exercises

    Assessments are done throughout the course in the form of practical assignments that the delegates are required to complete as part of the course content.

  • Relational Database System essentials
  • Using SQL to create and populate Databases and Tables
  • SQL as the cornerstone of database activity
  • Identify the purpose of the clauses in the SELECT statement
  • Using various filtering predicates to restrict output
  • Using the SQL built-in Functions
  • Sort and organize data to obtain a desired output
  • Modify and manipulate Table data
  • Using Subqueries
  • Using JOIN and UNION to retrieve data from multiple tables
  • Using CASE and Summary Tables
  • Using Common Table Expressions
  • Create and work with Views
  • Using Indices and other Performance considerations
