Course Summary:
This course reveals in detail how to customise the TCP/IP for MVS product and the commonly used servers. All versions of TCP/IP for MVS are covered and the essential and important configuration options are explained and examples provided.
Target Audience:
Network Technicians, Systems Programmers and Technical Managers who need an understanding of how TCP/IP for MVS is installed and configured.
Recommended Prerequisites:
A basic familiarity with TCP/IP is an advantage, although a general introduction to TCP/IP is provided in the course. A basic familiarity with Unix will also be an advantage, but is not required. Basic familiarity with MVS system programming will be a distinct advantage, but is also not required.
Course Objectives:
After completing this course, the student should be able to:
Describe in detail the TPC/IP architecture and protocols together with their use in corporate networks including IP addressing, subnets and routing
List the major configuration steps involved in customising TCP/IP for MVS
Explain how to define the host name, domain name and DNS information and the purpose and use of the HOSTS file
Explain how the TCP/IP to SNA gateway operates and how TCP/IP users are able to access SNA applications
Explain the Security Server customisation required for TCP/IP for MVS
Explain the purpose and use of Virtual IP addressing (VIPA)
Describe how to define common devices to TCP/IP for MVS
Describe the different options for supporting the HOSTS file
Explain the configuration of the TN3270 server and the SNA gateway
Describe how to implement a VTAM USS table for TN3270 users
Describe how to customise the Unix Telnet server and the Inet daemon
Describe the operation and customisation of the FTP server
Describe the customisation of the TFTP server
Describe the customisation of the Routed server
Explain the major problem determination tools available
Describe in overview how SNMP is implemented on MVS
