Course Summary:
SMP/E Fundamentals teaches you the skills, techniques, and strategies you need to successfully install, manage and maintain software products on a MVS system. Assessments are done throughout the training in the form of written knowledge questionnaires and practical assignments that the delegates are required to complete as part of the course content.
Target Audience:
System Programmers who have little or no experience using the System Modification Program (SMP/E) in a MVS, CICS, IMS, JES or VTAM environment.
Recommended Prerequisites:
Knowledge of VSAM, MVS JCL and Utilities.
Course Objectives:
After completing this course, the student should be able to:
Control the application of maintenance to products which are maintained using SMP/E
Describe the latest developments in system maintenance techniques, including SUF and web-enabled facilities
Explain the workings, structure and contents of SMP/E database and datasets
Describe examples of SMP/E’s capabilities and limitations
Display a thorough knowledge of SMP/E routine commands and functions
Describe the details of advanced commands that may be needed in problem situations
Examine and resolve common SMP/E related problems
Provide information about the configuration of the z/OS systems which may provide for more efficient maintenance protocols
Experience hands-on exercises in installation and maintenance in a safe environment
