Course Summary:
An entry-level CICS course designed to provide the accomplished COBOL, PL/I or Assembler programmer with all the skills necessary to code, test and debug CICS programs.

Target Audience:
Application programmers and analysts who design, code, and debug CICS applications.

Recommended Prerequisites:
Some program development experience using COBOL, PL/I or Assembler.

Course Objectives:

  • To provide students with the tools to code CICS programs
  • To introduce the concepts of on-line processing through CICS
  • To give a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of Pseudo-conversational Programming,
        COMMAREA, and Modified Data Tags (MDT's)
  • To provide a working knowledge of Basic Mapping Support (BMS)
  • To provide thorough knowledge of VSAM file operations in CICS
  • To introduce structured programming concepts and techniques in CICS
  • To provide good examples of CICS programs
