Course Summary:
This course addresses the fundamentals of the Java programming language. The course is divided into two parts.

Part I addresses:
(i) the syntax and semantics of the language;
(ii) the Java Application Programming Interface (API) and,
(iii) Object Oriented Programming (OOP)

Part II teaches the student how to develop Java applications using:
(i) the Graphical User Interface (GUI);
(ii) network and database programming and,
(iii) introduction to WEB based programming

Target Audience:
Students who can benefit from this course are programmers who are interested in adding the Java programming language to their list of skills and students who are preparing for the Sun Certified Developer for the Java™ Platform and the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java™ Platform examinations.

Recommended Prerequisites:
An understanding of programming principles.

Course Objectives:
After completing this course, the student should be able to:

  • Read and understand simple Java application programs in terms of structure, methods and data types
  • Use standard Java classes
  • Develop Java application programs that implement simple algorithms
  • Edit, compile and execute Java applications using line commands

    Assessments are done throughout the training in the form of written knowledge questionnaires and practical assignments that the delegates are required to complete as part of the course content.
