Course Summary:
This course presents the advanced features of COBOL. Topics include redefines, file update logic, table handling, copy libraries, control breaks, sort procedures, external subroutines, compiler options, passing parameters, and linkage editor.

Target Audience:
Experienced COBOL programmers who need to create or maintain programs that use subroutine linkages, work with tables, perform in-line sorts, work with the various VSAM file types and understand and can use various compiler options.

Recommended Prerequisites:
The participant should have a good background in coding basic COBOL programs.

Course Objectives:
After completing this course, the student should be able to:

  • Write, execute and debug COBOL programs which stress the advanced features of COBOL
  • Use Multi-dimensional and variable length tables
  • Use Multi-program and sub-program calls
  • Manipulate VSAM files
  • Code SORT input and output procedures
  • Implement advanced programming standards and style
