Course Summary:
Do you want to be a z/OS or OS/390 professional? Are you new to working with the z/OS and OS/390 operating systems? Then this is the course for you! It will touch on the components of MVS, how JES2 works, Batch Jobs, Virtual Storage, Data Management, and OS/390 commands.

Target Audience:
Course is designed for operators who are new to the OS/390-z/OS operating system. This course is also useful to analysts, managers, and programmers who may be unfamiliar with this operating system.

Recommended Prerequisites:
Basic understanding of operating systems is helpful but not required.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe the OS/390 and z/OS operating systems and the IBM mainframes on which they run
  • Describe the MVS/JES2 syntax rules and how to use them in a MVS environment
  • Use MVS/JES2 commands within the scope of a Sysplex
  • Describe how batch jobs may be entered into the system
  • Describe the basic operations of TSO/ISPF
  • Develop existing skills and build up levels of expertise which increase the operators ability to resolve problems
