Course Summary:
This workshop is based on Unit Standard 7794. Each learner must be able to interact verbally and non-verbally with others in various contexts and situations for a variety of purposes. The learner must understand the importance of clear, audible verbal communication with both internal and external customers

Assessments are done throughout the course in the form of written knowledge questionnaires and practical assignments that the delegates are required to complete as part of the training experience.

Target Audience:
The workshop could be useful for any employee who is involved in situations where effective verbal communication skills are required.

None

Course Objectives:
After completing this workshop, the qualifying learner is able to:

  • Explain the importance to the organisation and oneself of being able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Describe how to communicate with people who only speak foreign/regional languages or who’s first language is different to your own
  • Describe the various ways of communicating in a particular context with supplier, customer and colleagues and explain why these ways are appropriate
  • Describe potential barriers to effective communication
  • Speak clearly and audibly, and get clarification where necessary
  • Engage in a conversation until its logical conclusion
  • Given a situation with customers, decide how to handle the situation, and give reasons for making that decision
  • Suggest ways to improve verbal communication within the organisation/department
  • Develop a plan to minimise communication barriers
       - Barriers: cultural differences, stereotypes, educational differences, voice and articulation
